LaQuinta/Wyndham
Plantation, FL
75F, sunny
Disembarking the Emerald Princess on Friday was easy,
and after a quick Lyft ride a la TK’s expertise, we were reunited with his truck by 10:30 a.m.
Off we headed to Sawgrass Mills Mall again for a more thorough shopping
experience, although we really did not buy much. After lunch at Cheesecake Factory,
we went to our new hotel, LaQuinta in Plantation, Florida. Keep in mind that we
have yet to pay for hotel since we left Erie because of rewards through our
charge cards. I will say that TK has already said that he is going to cut up
the LaQuinta Visa card. More about that at
the end.
Luckily no one was using the laundry room and three loads of wash
later, we were done with that, but by that time, it was late in the day and somehow,
we were tired. We sorted out our luggage and rearranged everything so that we
will not be taking as much on board the Regal for our 7 day cruise.
Our dear Wisconsin friends, who were flying out of Fort Lauderdale
to Chicago, got stranded in North Carolina for the night—flight to Chicago
cancelled until 6 p.m. Saturday. That was just too long a drive to have dinner
with them one more time.
On Saturday we were off to Westfield Broward Mall (Dillard’s,
Macy’s, Penney’s etc.) for more shopping, but especially for the Regal Cinema
to see the movie 1917. The movie brought me back quite sharply to World War I, gripping
scenes of the devastation, stark images of the fury of war. Even though the story
line is fictional, it is based on fact and one can tell much research was done
to create the film. The final scene with “Come home to us” written on the back
of a photo really struck at my heart, as I thought of my Archie amidst all that
destruction. I am glad this film has already won the Golden Globe award
for Best Drama.
We tried Brio Tuscan Grill for dinner, but we don’t need to
do that again. When we returned to the hotel, 7 ½ hours later, our room had not
yet been cleaned.
We had a very good cruise on the Pacific Ocean and through the Panama
Canal even though it was quite rough in spots. Now we are ready for our old
favorites in the Caribbean tomorrow!
TK’s Takes: I am not allowed to say anything about his
driving anymore. First thing this morning we came upon an accident that just
happened and the car was on its roof—on a boulevarded highway with not much
traffic.
