HUATULCO, MEXICO WARMLY GREETS US!

Emerald Princess
90F, sunny!

Sometimes a ship arrives so quietly in port, I do not waken, but this morning the sound of mooring did wake me up. It probably depends on whether the ship is docking from port or starboard side, fore or aft. We thought this was a water shuttle port and most thought weather would prevent the stop, but we arrived at about 7:30 a.m. at a sunny warm port!

TK at the port

TK and I were ready to disembark and walked to the taxi stand for the short ride to the town. We both noticed the next taxi in line was being pushed to the stop by the driver. We immediately thought we did not want that taxi. Then we noticed the same thing going on with the next taxi. We soon learned that the drivers did that to conserve fuel, a fact that really really made me reflect on things we take for granted. For $3/per person we got to the small town of Huatulco, population 33,000.

Since we must have been some of the first passengers off the ship, we were treated to the sight of people preparing for an influx of 3500 people, sidewalks were being washed with buckets of water, shops were being swept, vendors uncovering their precious goods in the flea market. The Church Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe overlooked the town square where a Nativity scene was being carefully packed away after being displayed in the park's gazebo for the Christmas season.

TK and I sat in the park enjoying the shade when a man approached us and told us that Huatulco was known for its weaving and offered to show us a nearby factory and a “museum/trade exhibition a , a short two blocks away. We would have never known this town was known for its weavers. The looms clacked with vibrant colors as we walked through. The prices were amazing, and I could not resist a large tablecloth and 8 placemats, as well as few small gifts for family and friends, so reasonably priced.

We decided to have a Coca Cola Light at a nearby restaurant as well as nachos and the freshest salsa—I think there was a touch of cinnamon in the nacho and cheese sauce-delicious.

Why not have a silver shop in a restaurant?

We returned to the ship for an afternoon on Deck 5 Aft by TK’s favorite pool.

TK's favorite spot, fresh water, about 80F

JK's Note: I improved the wording in yesterday's blog...
After we left port, it became very windy! We made it out of port just in time. Someone in Huatulco said that sometimes it was so windy cruise ships do have to stay overnight.
