Emerald Princess--At Sea
85F,
sunny
What
word in English is the only word that ends in MT?
That
was today’s question for a prize. I will give you the answer at the end
You
have to hear this! The captain made an announcement this morning to explain
last evening’s weather. Wow! The wind was 80 knots, which means absolutely
nothing to me, but he explained that two more knots and it would be a Category
2 Hurricane! We did feel a little rockin’ and rollin’ while dining last night
and while we walked back to our stateroom, BUT I read for a couple hours and TK
watched a little TV and then went to sleep. This ship is so stable (as are most
cruise ships these days) that we did not realize the strength of the wind at
all!
From the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Scale
Category 1 – 64-82 knots (74-95 mph;
119-153 km/h). Damage is limited to foliage, signage, unanchored boats and
mobile homes. There is no significant damage to buildings. The main threat to
life and property may be flooding from heavy rains.
Category 2 – 83-95 knots (96-110
mph; 154-177 km/h). Roof damage to buildings. Doors and windows damaged. Mobile
homes severely damaged. Piers damaged by storm surge. Some trees blown down,
more extensive limb damage.
So
what do you think of that?
Today
was a quiet day—I went to the presentation on Costa Rica this morning after
breakfast (dining room pancakes (not bad)--- TK had Eggs Benedict). The theater was packed with passengers eager to
learn. Most passengers are my age or older, believe me.
I
spent a lot of time reading on the balcony. We cannot see land at this point,
but there were plenty of birds following the flying fish, which we could see,
and probably others that we couldn’t see. I saw two turtles floating by (about 12
inches in diameter). Tim’s count is 5 turtles.
And I have finished book #2 and #3
TK's Takes: He does not think the food is as good as his past cruises. The water in the pools is cooler. He is speculating that the water splashed out and they refilled the pools today.
