Aboard Emerald Princess
Sun
50-60F, feels cooler

Question: What hotel closes off its elevator at 9 a.m. so carpet can be laid?
Answer:  Courtyard Marriott in Long Beach, CA.

That made it a little inconvenient to carry 3 large pieces of luggage and two carry on pieces downstairs. But I sweet talked the desk clerk and he unlocked the elevator just for us. He was not happy that someone made this decision on a busy morning. Lawrence and Donna were not so lucky and Lawrence carried their luggage down the stairs (the elevator could be used to the 2nd floor).

When the four of us were all gathered by 10:30 a.m., TK called an Uber that came in 4 minutes with a Toyota Highlander ($20 +tip). Jose did not think all of our luggage would fit— 6 large, one smaller, and four carry on pieces, plus a backpack full of Diet Pepsi and a bag with Diet Coke. We told him we would make it work and alas, with all of us holding our own carry ons on our lap, it did work! Toyota should have done a commercial!

We arrived at the Emerald Princess at about 11 a.m. and easily checked in—TK and Donna had done most of the work online. But, we had to wait until 1:30 p.m. to board the ship—apparently there was a strict ICE check of the ship.

After a quick check of our stateroom, we headed for the “World Fresh Market,” a buffet full of interesting choices, fried shrimp, fresh fruit, lemon meringue tarts, and so much more.

Ocean Medallion is a new innovation-we will have it on the next cruise.
But to open our door on the Emerald, we touch our key card to the circle and our door unlocks

The other side of the room. We choose twin beds, but
they could be put together for a queen size.
Each of us has a night stand with two drawers and an open shelf

Ample closet area.

Sink--there is a long shelf under the sink

We unpacked and organized our "stuff," met our room steward, Maria, and then it was time for the safaety drill [required by Maritime Law]. The drill was painless in the Princess Theater, no need to carry the life jackets and trip over everyone.

As I write, I am watching Los Angeles port float by, or perhaps it is I who floats! It is 5:20 p.m. PST. This ship is a twin to the Ruby Princess, a ship we have sailed, so I know the design and it is one we like. We already have the soda package, which this year includes “mocktails” and juices.  We have also signed up for the unlimited Internet package on 4 devices!!! Times are changing!

Since we were still full from lunch, we just snacked at the buffet, then toured the ship. TK acclimates easily to where things are.  After a sneak peek at the shops and the photo gallery, we headed back to the stateroom. Time to relax and get rested for our day at sea tomorrow!

TK's Takes: He is impressed by the 55 inch new television that he can make zoom. It was the latest we ever boarded a ship out of over 50 cruises. He liked the meatloaf which had macaroni in the middle.
